Moca modem
If the only portion of your coax that is carrying your internet is where the modem is then you should be able to run a coax from the MoCA device to the rest of your coax without a splitter. Without MoCA output from your modem/router, you will use one MoCA device at your Router and connect it via ethernet then you will run a coax cable from that MoCA device's coax-out and connect it to the coax cable that runs to your destination which is possibly all of your coax in your home. There may also be an issue with interference between cable internet and MoCA but it's been a long time since I've read up on MoCA and any related frequencies. I'm not sure how MoCA translates over cable internet since I use fiber but unless your modem supports MoCA via coax (which I think is uncommon?) you need two MoCA devices. It's plugged into my Netgear Nighthawk X10

And then connect my modem to router's WAN, and LAN port on router back to the MoCA device? In other words, a loop rather than a straight link as in previous case.Īnd finally, where do I install the MoCA POE filter? I go in the garage and it's a mess of random, unlabeled wires (it's a shared garage with other neighbor in duplex)Īlso, my cable modem is the Netgear CM1000 standalone DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem.

Or, do I attach a splitter first to the Coax outlet, then run one cable to the MoCA's Coax In, and another to my Cable modem.

Then I have an Ethernet cable running from the modem to the WAN port on my router.Ĭoax outlet Cable Modem WAN port of router.ĭoes the Coax outlet plug into the MoCA's Coax Input, then I plug the TV out into my modem's Coax input, then run Ethernet from modem to WAN port of router? And then do I connect back a LAN port on my router to the Ethernet port on the MoCA adapter? the TV out is unconnected since we don't use cable TV.īut what about at the outlet where my current cable modem and separate router exists? Currently, the outlet plugs into my modem's Coax In. I understand how MOCA works, and what is needed to hook it up to an end, remote device - I plug the Coax In input on the MOCA adapter to the coax outlet on my wall, and then run an ethernet cable from the device to my wired AP or a bridge.

If you take a look at the ActionTEC device, there are 2 coax outputs: Coax In and one for TV out, and one Ethernet output:
